Audience Research - A Profesional Producers Opinion

I decided that I would write the legendary film producer, Tony Garnett.
Tony Garnett was the producer of the 1969 Social Realism classic 'Kes.'
Since writting and producing the film with the iconic Ken Loach, he went on to produce much more great work with one of Britains greatest directors of all time.
I sent Mr Garnett an email to his personal website...

Dear Mr Garnett

I am seventeen years old and an A-Level media studies student at the Beacon School, Banstead. As part of our syllabus this year we have to create a five minute short film in the genre of Social Realism.

Since beginning my research I have learnt how you are an extremely successful social realism producer, after your collaborations with Ken Loach on cult films such as ‘Kes’ and highly acclaimed BBC television series’ such as ‘Cathy Come Home’ and ‘Days of Hope.’

My film examines the perception that two young children have on the separation of their parents, as they wait at a window one evening for their father to pick them up. It is a social realism and drama hybrid. I attempt to show the children waiting at the window for the entire five minutes and how their relationship with each other changes in the absence of a parent.

With your knowledge I was wondering if you could give me an opinion of how you would produce this type of story and what you believe is crucial to the representation.

I thank you for your time!

Charles W. J. Shakespeare.
